Darkroom Easel
When we hear the word easel, we would instantly think that is has something to do with holding a canvass for a painting. However, what most people do not know is that these are also required when developing film inside a darkroom.
Much like the same purpose, a Darkroom easel is meant to hold the paper while it is still completing the process of development. Inside a darkroom, you will find this properly positioned under the enlarger. This is responsible for holding the photo paper in place while it is under exposure until the process has been completed. One of the best things about this particular tool is that it will enable the film developer to place a variety of sizes of photo paper under the enlarger at any given time.
To some film developers, a Darkroom easel can serve a purpose that is more than simply keeping the photo paper flat and in place during the process. Some have found the efficiency in using this tool especially when creating borders around the edge of the paper. While most people would think that using cut out cardboard to place on the edges will do a good job, the rough sections of the cut – even the slightest fiber that sticks out of one side will drastically provide effects to the finished photo. An easel has the ability to block all light sources from coming in to contact with the particular sections of the paper to enable it to have a clean border.
